You could also use one of their computers if you didn't have your own. They had a computer room and they offered computer classes. That was a huge facility so I was so impressed that she knew everyone's name. Every time she went by someone, she would say hi and knew their names. The person who assisted us was very good though. As my daughter would say, it was too bougie, and I didn't like the fact that they have a buy-in program. The staff is respectful and professional - yet kind and caring.ĭiane The Sunset Manor was fine but it wasn't for us. This is a full service assisted living facility that offers residents flexibility and comfort. The staff takes residents on weekly outings for shopping and entertainment "“ and they also take day trips for nature walks and other fun outings. They also had a private dining room for friends and family to enjoy. In fact, she's a great cook and we were told that she would be allowed in the kitchen as he wished. We could see that his mother would appreciate their menu options "“ since she's always enjoyed really good food. The lunch we had was like you might find in an upscale diner. The restaurant style dining area offers many delicious choices. There is a pool for aquatics and a full wellness center. They have planned exercise classes - but also offer residents to work out any time they wish. The activities they plan regularly include everything from visiting local restaurant favorites, the public library and movies - to day trips in nearby areas. All had a great deal of natural light and fresh air with very comfortable furniture. The private rooms featured plenty of space in nicely decorated surroundings. There was plenty of sunlight so that they do not need to use lighting when it is sunny outside. The interior foyer was bright, airy and fresh. There were nice trees and benches for residents to enjoy. The outside grounds were well tended, vibrant and colorful. Take that with a grain of salt, as my grandma can be hard to please, but during those two years I can't think of a place where she would have been as happy as she was at Sunset Manor.Ĭommercesd We went to visit the Sunset Manor assisted living facility since we were already in the region, looking at places for my friend's mother to live. My only negative comment is that they hire students from nearby high schools and colleges to handle some roles at Sunset Manor, and my grandmother always complained that they were often cold towards the residents, even bordering on rude. The local community took it upon themselves to make sure that the residents at Sunset Manor had visitors. I was most impressed with the number of events that they had going on, everything for game nights to piano players from the local orchestra to arts and crafts days. One of the attending nurses took a special liking to my grandma and made us feel right at home. I often went with my two older sisters, and we always left feeling good, knowing that she was taken such good care of. Luckily for me, I lived nearby in Jenison, MI and made an effort to visit her twice a week. Trhuyser My grandmother was a resident here for roughly 18 months, before passing away last year. I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident As far as personal hygeine, after she would go to the bathroom, she needed assistance, well, they left her to do that by herself that didn’t work out too well as I thought it would. They let her do that herself, thus she wasn’t doing a very good job. It is just my wife’s personal care as far as, for example, I wanted them to brush her teeth for her because she was unable because of the stroke, and they didn’t want to do that. The food was very good, and they certainly had a wide range of activities for people. That could be why I was somewhat dissatisfied. Maybe they were so large that they didn’t have really enough staff to take care of all the residents. They had the 3 major living situations available. It was permanent residence as well as assisted living and respite care. It was OK, but they didn’t attend to her personal needs nearly as much as I wanted. Tim558214 My wife stayed at Sunset Manor.
